- Karina Banda rejects generalizations
- Both hosts call for respect
The recent deaths of Alex Pretti and Renée Good during altercations with ICE agents have sparked a heated national debate over the use of force and the response of protesters.
Amid this polarized climate, the Univision program Desiguales chose to open the floor to differing opinions by inviting a Latino businessman who publicly defended the agents’ actions.
From the start of his remarks, the guest stated that “when a person takes it upon themselves to hit, insult, or spit on an agent, that is madness.”
His words prompted an immediate reaction from the show’s hosts, who questioned the framing of his argument during the Desiguales ICE debate.
Karina Banda Rejects Generalizations About Protesters

Karina Banda was the first to respond, challenging the use of the word “madness” to describe those who protest.
“I don’t think that’s crazy,” the presenter said, emphasizing that not everyone who takes to the streets behaves aggressively.

Banda pointed out that “there have been situations where, unfortunately, ICE agents have also been involved in very tragic incidents that ended in the loss of lives.”
She insisted that the issue should not be generalized and that any analysis must consider the full complexity of the conflict.
Guest Insists Agents Acted Correctly
The businessman stood by his position, stating that everyone has the right to an opinion but drawing a line regarding protesters’ conduct.
He said that those who demonstrate peacefully “have the right,” but that “once they step off the sidewalk into the street where agents are doing their job, that person becomes an urban warrior.”
With that argument, he justified the response of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during tense confrontations.
His intervention led to a firm yet respectful exchange in the studio, further fueling the Desiguales ICE debate.
Adamari López Calls for Mutual Respect and Responsibility
Adamari López stepped in to close the segment with a message advocating balance and coexistence.
“We all need to respect one another and respect the laws — us as citizens, and also police officers and ICE agents with us as a community,” the host stated.
The closing remarks immediately sparked reactions on social media, where users were divided between support and criticism.
“Poor man, he doesn’t know what he’s saying,” “He’s absolutely right,” and “How sad, and he talks about values,” were among the comments circulating after the ICE debate on Desiguales.
